I first discovered the Pilates Method when I had a neck injury in 1997 and sought Pilates for successful rehabilitation. After that I participated in ‘less structured’ classes at local gyms and always loved the sessions.
I had a life change, and at 48 needed to re-skill but I had criteria, wanting to find a career that would tick certain boxes; something that I loved; working with people, but also something that would keep me active both mentally and physically.
I researched different Pilates training centres and was bit overwhelmed as I could not decide where I should study. Fortunately my daughter’s dance teacher recommended National Pilates Training and the Aligned for Life Pilates studio in Little Bourke Street so I booked a session – that was start of a new journey for me realising that the Pilates I had been doing for years in the ‘gym world’ had kept me moving but was so far removed from the Pilates Philosophy that I really was not in touch with my body.
I am now more than halfway through the course at National Pilates Training and loving it! I think more than anything I am constantly surprised by enthusiasm and the passion of the instructors. As part of the course one does observation hours and I watch them give 100% to their client and then have the same energy and dedication to the students. It’s unbelievable!
The course is highly professional, as are the instructors who truly want to share their broad experience, skills and knowledge but at the same time are down to earth and nurturing. For me it is like being part of a family and my fellow students are fantastic, there is a range of ages and backgrounds – they too are incredibly supportive!
At times, (for me) the course is challenging but my expectations are high and I don’t want to be mediocre. I have learnt so much already and it is just the tip of the iceberg I believe the Pilates Method is not just an exercise program, it is a lifestyle.
I would highly recommend to anyone thinking of a career in Pilates to choose National Pilates Training.
It took me a long, long time to achieve the certification and I am very grateful to you and the dedicated team at the Bourke Street studio for your highly professional, enthusiastic and committed tutelage and also your kindness and patience.
Your Certificate IV course has been very informative, far more so than any other fitness course I’ve undertaken in the past. I’ve acquired valuable knowledge that can be applied within and outside the Pilates realm. I certainly approach my gym instruction with a keener eye for postural alignment and correct movement pattern now and am also more observant of these factors in my day to day life.
I am acutely aware that there is so much more to learn and I look forward to further study with National Pilates Training when I have the time to devote to it in the future. I highly recommend your Certificate IV and Diploma courses.
Looking back on my education, firstly as a Certificate IV – Matwork graduate and then a Diploma graduate, I cannot help but to feel a sense of community and a feeling that, ‘I want to be back amongst it all…’. I know all good things must come to an end and it was time I became an independent instructor free from NPT. With no delay, I was hired as an instructor with Melbourne Pilates Group and here my journey continues to this day. I wish for all future instructors to enjoy the whole movement learning experience. It will give you a new outlook on life and perhaps change your initial impressions to what encompasses exercise and fitness. Of course, the learning experience will encompass both these things, but it may challenge and/or set a new awareness to what you perceive as ‘movement’.Just remember, “Patience and persistence are vital qualities in the ultimate successful accomplishment of any worthwhile endeavour”(Joseph H. Pilates).
I started my career with National Pilates training in April 2011, when I started studying the Certificate IV in Pilates Matwork Instruction (91492NSW). The course was so enjoyable and practical, that by the end of the year, I had signed up to upgrade to the Diploma of Professional Pilates Instruction (91491NSW), to learn how to be a studio instructor. What I love about NPT is their down to earth practicality – I always felt like I was getting the most comprehensive training on the market and that I would be fully prepared to work (and work well!) in the industry on completion. Having an accredited qualification makes finding work so much easier as well. The NPT faculty are wonderful – supportive and full of great information based on years of experience in the industry, and the ability to undertake work experience hours within the Aligned for Life Pilates studio was invaluable. The course is full, demanding, fascinating, and empowering and I recommend it to anyone.
