June intake -

The Certificate in Pilates Matwork Instruction aims to provide a Pilates Matwork Instructor of the highest calibres – someone who is sufficiently versed in the basic science of human movement as well as adaptations to given situations and who has the creativity to blend the two according to the needs of each individual. This type of instructor will be able to work competently with apparently healthy clients in one-on-one to group settings.

The Certificate in Pilates Matwork Instruction is seen as entry level into the Pilates Matwork industry and is designed to reflect the role of those who can work autonomously within the defined range, and with apparently healthy to low risk clients. The Certificate In Pilates Matwork Instruction provides an accredited outcome of six units of competency drawn from the Diploma of Professional Pilates Instruction (10537NAT).

This course provides a Statement of Attainment as partial completion of the Diploma of Professional Pilates Instruction (10537NAT), providing graduates with the recognition of having completed six accredited units of competency drawn from the Diploma course. This is not a formal qualification outcome but a grouping of units drawn from the Diploma course.

This workshop begins by separating the myths from the facts that surround scoliosis as well as discussing the current recommended treatment for scoliosis within the medical profession. We will then look in detail at the vertebrae and what is happening to them within a scoliotic spine. By better understanding your clients’ Cobb angles and degree of rotation within them, you will better equipped to make suitable exercise choices. During or after this workshop, you will:

  • Observe changes in Scoliotic client at the workshop and have the opportunity to apply hands on techniques
  • Understand how to “unwind” the scoliotic curves through both set up and basic breathing techniques
  • Apply basic programming strategies
  • Work with several Scoliotic clients to assess curvature and devise suitable programs for them

Running is an innate and natural movement pattern that can be as freeing to the body as Pilates is. In this studio series, we use the Pilates Method to teach us how to run in a way that develops inner power, optimum alignment and refined body awareness.

This series will provide you with the opportunity to:

  • Become familiar with ways of doing and teaching movement that engage with the intelligence of your organ, fluid, sensory, vestibular and nervous systems; first in Pilates and then through walking and into running
  • Use the Pilates Method to become familiar with skills and movement qualities that are key to supported and integrated walking, running and sprinting form
  • Develop cues, imagery and teaching skills to seamlessly transfer these movement qualities into running.
  • Embody the key elements of biointelligent running.

The series is designed to be experienced in sequential order; however each workshop is complete in its own right.

Join our National Pilates Training faculty educator Helen New on a journey on Pilates for Postnatal Rehabilitation.

Pregnancy is one of the most amazing experiences a female human body can experience – but unfortunately the extra load and expansion can leave some undesirable postnatal effects.

One in three mothers will experience incontinence, and up to 50% have diastasis rectus abdominis (DRA) immediately postpartum. Weakness in these areas, together with other hormonal and postural changes and the constant feeding and carrying of a newborn, can lead to a new mother feeling physically and mentally vulnerable.

It’s therefore imperative for movement specialists to be very sensitive to mothers’ needs and be able to prescribe and effectively instruct optimal postnatal rehabilitation exercises.

The workshop will provide participants with increased theoretical knowledge and practical application, including:

  • knowledge of common changes experienced by a postnatal mother
  • hands-on experience to assess and prescribe exercises for DRA
  • increased ability to cue / instruct effective engagement of pelvic floor and TA
  • variety of exercises / repertoire with a specific focus on optimal load
  • increased confidence with hands-on instruction to both assess and assist effective execution of prescribed exercises.

National Pilates Training is delighted to offer this workshop. Come and explore the spirals and twists in the lower body that help us move efficiently

Common misconceptions in movement and recruitment patterns in the lower limbs will be revealed. This workshop also incorporates an opportunity to refresh your knowledge of anatomy and physiology principles.

The human body isn't designed to move through a strict singular plane; discover and learn about the limbs’ need to twist and spiral when moving through longitudinal planes.

The workshop will finish with relevant exercise prescription to take away and use in your own practice and with clients.

The relationship between body conditioning exercises, the Pilates method principles and fundamentals of dance movement technique will be explored and linked in each module of the course.

Each module is linked through the CORE approach; ‘teach the body in front of you’, that in turn aims to foster and refine the participant’s skills to manipulate, innovate and individualise conditioning exercises.

Module 1 - FOCUS

The FOCUS module highlights the practice of conditioning exercises that support dances in their art practice. The short course will include select movement content and teaching methodologies for conditioning exercises.
