  • When did you start practicing Pilates and why?

My Pilates journey began around 15 years ago while I was completing my Bachelor of Science at uni. I started attending sessions at the former “Leeon and Shaw Studio,” which was located within The McDonald College.

Pilates brought together everything I was naturally drawn to — the discipline and alignment of ballet, the conditioning and performance of sport, and the science behind movement. It felt like the perfect fusion of all my interests.

  • How long have you been running a Pilates studio for?

About 5 years now. What started out as a small home-based studio, has expanded to where it is now; a fully equipped studio offering private and semi-private studio sessions, group reformer, matwork, barre Pilates and yoga sessions.

  • Why did you choose to open your own Pilates studio?

I always envisioned a studio that combined the Pilates method with complementary movement modalities — something that bridged the gap between traditional Pilates and group fitness.

  • What have you enjoyed the most about running a studio?

Seeing clients who had never tried Pilates before discover movements that they look forward to each week. Seeing our clients progress, achieve movement goals, overcome injury and see the benefits carry over outside the studio.

  • What have you found most challenging?

Having your own studio definitely means wearing a lot of “hats”; instructor, admin, social media, building maintenance, IT support etc which can be tricky to balance. Having very capable, supportive staff makes this less of a challenge.

  • How long have you been affiliated with NPT?

While I had crossed paths with Katrina at various industry events over the years, our formal studio affiliation with NPT began about two and a half years ago, when they started expanding into new regions. We’re excited to be part of NPT’s continued growth, especially in the Central Coast and Lake Macquarie regions.

  • How has this relationship helped you grow your business?

Our affiliation with NPT helps reinforce our studio’s values and highlights our shared commitment to the Pilates method and its core principles. It offers Pilates professionals, current trainees, and clients a clear understanding of the quality and approach they can expect from our studio.

  • What have you noticed about the graduates from NPT?

I have noticed NPT graduates enter the industry with a strong foundation in the Pilates method. They’re confident, knowledgeable, and ready to work with a wide variety of clients right from the start — which is a testament to the quality of their training.
