  • When did you start practicing Pilates and why?

I started Pilates in 1991.  I was introduced to the method in Sydney 1990 while I was studying dance.  I started regular classes 1991. As a dancer I had a weakness in my Right ankle that I would often sprain. I need to re assess how I was moving to help build strength and balance in my body to help prevent injury. I knew Pilates was the methodology to help me.  It made a huge difference to how I moved and injury free.

  • How long have you been running a Pilates studio for?

I started teaching in 1993 and it wasn’t until 2003 I established my studio.  We have been in operation for 21 years now.

  • Why did you choose to open your own Pilates studio?

I had got to a point in my own training and teaching where I needed the space to develop my own style of practice as a one man show. Which I did for a couple of years before I brought in staff.

  • What have you enjoyed the most about running a studio?

Having the opportunity to establish my brand as Infinity Pilates studio. Whilst working with bunch of clients and staff who are attracted to Infinity because of who we are and how we teach the method of Joseph Pilates. It is so rewarding.

  • What have you found most challenging?

Work, Life balance.  I have such a passion for Pilates and the studio, that at times it is really challenging to switch off from the many hats I wear at the studio.  I am blessed to have a supportive partner Tony and my springer spaniel Flynn to help find that balance everyday.

  • How long have you been affiliated with NPT?

15 years + I would say.  I have been mates with Katrina through our old training days, and come from very similar teaching standards. I have been very supportive of the great work that Katrina and Kath bring to the Pilates training and more than happy to help provide a space for students to train. Knowing how important self-mastery, and observation is, providing a supportive and safe space for a Pilates student to help them grow is very rewarding.

  • How has this relationship helped you grow your business?

Being an affiliate with one of the leading educational bodies here in Australia has helped build recognition of the high standards Infinity Pilates Studio provides in the Pilates Industry nationwide.

  • What have you noticed about the graduates from NPT?

They understand the amount of work and commitment it takes to be a great teacher.  It is a heavy workload for the students, so those that stick with it,  come out with good work ethics.

The graduates are aware that after finishing the Diploma that there is still so much to learn.  To be a good teacher one continues to learn along their journey as a teacher.  I am a great advocate of that.  A wonderful teacher and mentor of mine once said to me, ‘the minute you stop learning is the minute you hang up your keys.’  It is great to see the students come out still hungry to learn more!!
