  • When did you start practicing Pilates and why?

I discovered Matwork Pilates about 15 years ago when we were living in the UK at a small little studio near home.  I had no idea what it was but within no time I had the bug and decided to study to learn more.  I started teaching Matwork 10 years ago over there and the journey has continued on every since!

  • How long have you been running a Pilates studio for?

We are now in our fourth year at The Pilates Studios at Wellness on William in Rockhampton and continuing to grow and evolve year-on-year.

  • Why did you choose to open your own Pilates studio?

I wanted to create something where I could make a positive difference in peoples lives, share the love for Pilates and really do something that I am truly passionate about.  I’m pretty driven and love a challenge so opening a studio kind of made sense as the next step for me.  The building of my dreams became available and I haven’t looked back.  I can honestly say I really and truly love what I do, going into the studio every day, being surrounded by incredible people and absorbed in Pilates!

  • What have you enjoyed the most about running a studio?

The people and the Pilates!  I am absolutely energised by both every single day.  Our clients are amazing, as are my fellow instructors and industry peers.  The change and the benefits that Pilates brings – not just physically – continue to blow my mind.  And my own practice of Pilates continues to unfold amongst it all!  I love the culture that we have at the studio – it’s built around positive movement and empowering and growing confidence in those who practice there.

  • What have you found most challenging?

Practicing patience.  There are so many ideas and things I want to do and implement but it can’t all be done in a day and I’m continuously reminded that it doesn’t need to be.  The dreams are there to continue working towards and help guide the direction and the way forward for me and the studio.  They also evolve and adapt as I continue to grow and learn.

  • How long have you been affiliated with NPT?

We have been affiliated with NPT since 2024.

  • How has this relationship helped you grow your business?

It is still early days as an Affiliate with NPT but we have some exciting plans in the works in terms of being able to partner and offer learning opportunities to our clients, instructors and other instructors in the area.  Also, we have a student and possibly others coming on board studying under NPT who are great to work with, mentor and hopefully be able to bring on board to our clients as studio instructors once they finalise their qualifications.  This helps to be able to expand our team, our diversity and our offerings.

  • What have you noticed about graduates from NPT?

We haven’t had a graduate through yet but have a current student of NPT who is thoroughly immersed in her experience and very positive about her studies and her dealings with NPT.  Her application to her practice and the questions that she has, are testament to her commitment and dedication but also to the quality of the NPT course structure and material.
