Course summary: 

The Diploma of Professional Pilates Instruction (10838NAT) builds the required skills and knowledge to understand the pilates method in the traditional fully equipped pilates studio. The study of the Diploma of professional Pilates Instruction (10838) with National Pilates Training takes a comprehensive approach to each of the Joseph Pilates uniquely designed apparatus including the reformer, Wunda Chair, Cadillac/trapeze, Ped-a-Pul, ladder Barrel, spine corrector, baby arc, matwork, small props/apparatus in applying the original Joseph Pilates concepts and principles. 

As a graduate of the Diploma of professional pilates Instruction (10838NAT)  you will be equipped in managing low risk conditions, have the ability to tailor programs to meet individual needs for injury prevention, sports performance enhancement, improving strength and fitness for overall general health and wellbeing.

The curriculum for the Diploma of Professional Pilates Instruction is an evidence based curriculum acknowledging current research, sports medicine updates and up to date clinical practise.

This qualification completed with National Pilates Training has been government accredited, industry endorsed by Pilates Alliance Australasia meeting industry standards ensuring all graduates ae comprehensively trained and have the required employability skills.

100% online – self directed

This student will be 100% online, self directed, self paced for the x 20 units of competency.

This student has chosen this method of delivery as someone who is autonomous, and likes to work independently, setting appropriate time aside to follow the NPT study guide recommendations. This self directed student has the option of choosing to attend the supported partial/whole “live streamed” or “in person” scheduled sessions, for an additional cost.

This student will gain the required knowledge in our NPT eLearn, the required practicable skills on site in a suitable professional work place, where access to the full suite of Pilates equipment will be required.

The NPT ELearn is comprehensive, highly interactive including repertoire videos, repertoire workbooks, downloadable tools and resources, journals.

This student will be supported finding an appropriate work placement site.

Online + supported ‘in person” scheduled sessions

This student will be self directed for the required knowledge acquisition in the NPT eLearn for the x 20 units of competency and supported for the required practicable skills with the “in person” scheduled sessions in the form of tutorials, repertoire practise sessions, teaching clinics (loggable work placement hours) working alongside peers, coached and mentored by our knowledgeable and highly experienced NPT faculty. This student, choosing this method of delivery, enjoys social contact, interacting with peers, receiving feedback, wants the support and coaching from our NPT faculty in reaching their desired outcome in a reasonable timeframe.

Online + supported “live streamed” scheduled sessions

This student will be self directed for the required knowledge acquisition in the NPT eLearn for the x 20 units of competency and supported for the required practicable skills with the “live streamed” scheduled sessions in the form of tutorials, repertoire practise sessions, teaching clinics (loggable work placement hours), enjoys working with peers, wants to be coached and mentored by our knowledgeable and experienced NPT faculty. This student, choosing this method of delivery, enjoys interacting with peers, receiving feedback, wants the support and coaching from our knowledgeable and experienced NPT faculty.

This student will need access to the pilates reformer, pilates wunda chair, pilates Cadillac, pilates ladder barrel, pilates spine corrector, pilates ped-a-pul, pilates spine corrector, pilates mats and small props.

The qualification

The Diploma of Professional Pilates Instruction (10838NAT) is regarded as the entry level qualification to gain employment in the Pilates industry. The Diploma is designed to reflect the role of an instructor who can work autonomously within the defined range, under limited supervision.

Graduates of this course will be able to take up employment as a Pilates instructor, teaching comprehensive Pilates studio work on all apparatus to a variety of clients in health centres, fitness centres, community centres, clinical practices, or in their own studio.

The Diploma of Professional Pilates Instruction (10838NAT) is an evidence based curriculum that is both government accredited and industry endorsed by Pilates Alliance Australasia.

What will you learn?

The Diploma of Professional Pilates Instruction (10838NAT) course will prepare you to operate in a professional and specialised studio environment with low-risk client groups. The course is divided into 20 units covering all aspects of the Pilates Method, including:

  • Basic anatomy and physiology principles and practical application to movement, through NPT’s pre-requisite gateway course introduction to Anatomy (or completion of HLTAAP001 Recognise Healthy Body Systems qualification or an equivalent)
  • History, concepts and principles of the Pilates Method
  • Exercise planning and programming
  • Postural analysis and appraisal
  • Applied correction of faulty posture and postural dysfunction
  • Client management, assessment and instructing techniques
  • Work Health and Safety and legal requirements within the Pilates industry
  • Methods of communication in dealing with clients and colleagues
  • Adult learning and instructional techniques for one-on-one and groups
  • Interactions and referrals with other health care professionals
  • Systematic approaches to Pilates studio and matwork programming
  • Pilates exercise for special conditions
  • Work ethics and professional development
  • Pilates repertoire for mat, reformer, cadillac, wunda chair, barrels and small apparatus from introductory to intermediate levels.

Students undertaking the in person or live streamed delivery of this course will get access to all learning materials for the 20 units of competency that comprise the Diploma of Professional Pilates Instruction (10838NAT).

Students undertaking the “in person” or live streamed delivery of this course will have access to all learning materials and resources for all. 20 number of units of competency within our Learning management system (LMS) and our NPT eLearn.

Students are required to undertake:

  • 825 hours of directed learning
  • 300 hours of Self-Directed Learning (SDL)
  • 100 hours of self mastery

Students are also required to attend:

  • 7 x tutorials
  • 9 x repertoire practise sessions
  • 14 x teaching clinics

Students completing in person or live streamed studies must also undertake 300 hours of either simulated or real work experience, comprising:

  • 100 hours observation
  • 200 hours teacher training

Work placement

The work placement component is an essential phase of your training. Being able to put all of your knowledge into practice before you leave the course ensure that you are confident and ready to take on work as an instructor in a professional studio environment.

The work placement hours for this course are part of the delivery schedule and completed through “on-the-job” assisting hours and real time hours at one of our affiliate studios.

Note that you are still under the supervision of a qualified and experienced practitioner during your work placement.

Direct Credit (DC), Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Current Competency (RCC)

Recognition will be given for skills and knowledge gained in other courses, life experience, or training. DC, RPL and RCC assessment may include a variety of methods such as portfolio, practical test, demonstration, interview or a combination of these methods.
